Malgrat de Mar is a town in the most eastern municipality of el Maresme, bordering the municipalities of la Selva and la Tordera. It is a tourist town with numerous hotels and campsites and some 4.5 km of beaches.
The historical centre features the San Nicolás church with its neoclassical façade and bell tower with an octagonal base, known as the “Cathedral of the Coast”. It also has mediaeval buildings such as the manor house that is now the library and the old hospital, and modernist buildings such as Ca l'Arnau or Torre de l'Esquena.
Particular points of interest include the castle hill, Francesc Macià park, Can Campossol park, the former gardens of the house where Zenòbia Camprubí, the wife of the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature Juan Ramón Jiménez, was born.
